Welcome to
Stroud
Stroud sits on the original 1926 Route 66 alignment roughly halfway between Tulsa and Oklahoma City — a small Lincoln County town of about 2,700 residents that has preserved more of its mid-century Mother Road character than almost any other community on the Oklahoma stretch.
The town is anchored by genuinely historic Route 66 institutions: the 1939 Rock Café — built from sandstone left over from the highway's construction and the documented inspiration for Sally Carrera in Pixar's Cars — and the 1950 Skyliner Motel with its original arrow-pointing-skyward neon sign still in place. Beyond the two landmarks, Stroud offers the 2026 Route 66 Centennial Monument, the new Route 66 Spirit of America Museum, two Oklahoma wineries (StableRidge in a converted 1898 Catholic church on Route 66, and Sparks Vineyard 15 minutes south), the 600-acre Stroud Municipal Lake, and the surviving Ozark Trail Monument with 1.3 miles of original 1926 Route 66 dirt roadbed. For Route 66 travelers driving the natural Tulsa-to-Oklahoma-City segment, Stroud is the single best mid-route overnight stop on the entire Oklahoma stretch.

Tips for Visiting Stroud
Pair the Rock Café (dinner + breakfast) with a Skyliner Motel overnight — the classic Stroud Route 66 pattern.
Ask Dawn Welch at the Rock Café about the Pixar Cars connection and the 2008 fire rebuild.
The Skyliner neon sign is best photographed at dusk when the cobalt-blue neon lights up.
The 2026 Route 66 Centennial Monument next door to the Rock Café is illuminated nightly — a key Centennial photo stop.
Drive the 1.3-mile section of original 1926 Route 66 dirt roadbed at the Ozark Trail Monument west of town — one of the few drivable pre-paved Route 66 segments anywhere.
Stroud is between OKC (65 mi west) and Tulsa (50 mi east) — a natural lunch stop or overnight.
